life as tourists

so far so good. we're being tourists. we spent our first "official" day wandering the streets of central town Sydney. the weather was really nice, but we're still not accustomed to the hot temperature of the southern hemisphere (especially because we were skiing literally a week ago). we started our day on george street/king street, just looking, trying to find our way around. henri found some really bright running shoes from nike. after cruising up and down the streets for a bit, we hopped on a train down to bondi junction, where we had a nice lunch at the Zoo Bar. it was hot and we were jetlagged, so we headed home after that.

they're PRETTY cool
on friday we were part of australian history, where the temperature hit a record high of 46.6 degrees! it was close to impossible to do anything, so we stayed inside all day (aircon was lovely) - quite a boring day, but at least we know what 46.6 degrees feels like! (yay?)
saturday was cooler (24 degrees) so we decided to go bondi beach - just to explore the area (even though it was overcast and quite windy). we reserved a place to stay at a backpackers hostel for next week, just to get a feel of the bondi beach lifestyle. we had a lovely lunch at a place called The Bucket List, where we had excellent fish and chips (recommended by sofia) :) on the way home, we stopped by circular quay and the harbour, where we walked up to the opera house, then took a little stroll in the botanical gardens (saw two weddings take place - not that we were stalking them or anything..........)
it was a good day :)

crappy weather  = crappy photo of harbour bridge (google for better images)

today (sunday), we went to the Powerhouse Museum by Darling Harbour - we were there for almost 4 hours ($12 well spent!). really cool exhibitions, especially the "love lace" and the "access to life" sections. we accidentally walked through chinatown on Dixon street on our way to the train station by town hall, so that was an adventure (a good one). other than that, the day hasn't been so eventful, but a nice one nonetheless.

(*update on chris' hair colour: he has now returned to his regular (dyed) brown, and we also spotted another man with purple hair today! great telepathic bonding times!)

tomorrow we plan on walking the bondi-bronte coastal path, so that should be nice! looking forward to it!

we have arrived!

after 24 hours of flying, we have finally made it to the other side of the world! we landed in the morning in Sydney, where we were greeted by Georgie & Nick Mulcahy (the kids of the family that we're staying at for now). no problems with customs or baggage claim, so we headed out for breakfast at Kitchen By Mike. after settling in chez the Mulcahy's (in their stunning pool house), we went for a lunch trip to Manly Beach, where we had amazing pizzas at Hugos Manly. a snooze on the beach followed, then a nap at home. the jet lag is not making us very interesting people. we'll keep you posted!
